Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist John L. Smith weighs in on the latest Mason-Dixon polling results in the U.S. Senate primary race which were published this past weekend.
“Sue Lowden continues to expand her lead over Danny Tarkanian. . . . Lowden clearly is benefiting from her decision to ignore Tarkanian’s daily insults and focus as the foregone favorite to face Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Her TV spots have been just right, in my opinion, and she has showed just enough money to push Tarkanian out of the game.
“Tarkanian, meanwhile, has seemed more marginal as his frustration has grown. Free advice to Tark: Use the next few weeks to position yourself for a future office. Make those contacts, shore up those relationships. Hike the high road because if this poll is anywhere near accurate, you’re toast this time around.”
Good advice.

Perhaps the worst news for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian in the latest Mason-Dixon poll over the weekend wasn’t that fellow Republican Sue Lowden is holding onto her 18 point lead over him in the GOP primary, but the fact that he’s no longer beating Harry Reid.
Now that’s embarrassing.

Both Sue Lowden and Danny Tarkanian were interviewed last night by FOX News’ Greta Van Susteren about their Nevada U.S. Senate campaigns. Haven’t watched Sue’s segment yet, but watched Danny’s this morning from his campaign website.
First, Danny did his usual Danny schtick – distorting and telling untruths about Sue’s record and positions. Nothing new there. But I actually have to give him credit for something else he said (would somebody please help Mr. FisFis up off the floor!).

Seems like it was only a month ago that: “In a breathless press email to reporters and other interested folks, Team Tark excitedly pointed to polling ‘trendlines’ compiled by Pollster.com which they seem to believe show that Danny’s star is rising while Sue’s is going supernova.”
Well, here’s how that trendline has progressed over the last four weeks, including a week after Danny Tarkanian went up with his non-FEC compliant television ads:
1.) Sue Lowden has now significantly increased her lead over Harry Reid.
2.) Danny now trails Sharron Angle and has moved from second place to third place.
It’s really starting to look like Tark supporters have again hitched their wagon to a falling star.

Well, there he goes again.
In Republican U.S. Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian’s new radio ad, The Perennial Candidate says this:
“Hi this is Danny Tarkanian. I was really looking forward to a candidate debate on April 30, but the other candidate suddenly withdrew. That’s disappointing and I hope she will reconsider. Voters deserve a discussion of the issues, not just millions in TV ads.”
But according to “the other candidate,” Sue Lowden, Tarkanian’s claim is false.
Gee, what are the odds?
Laura Myers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports this morning that “Lowden campaign manager Robert Uithoven said no date had been set for the event and when April 30 was picked she had a conflict. Uithoven said Lowden wants a debate before the June 8 primary and is trying to change her schedule to participate.”
Danny, Danny, Danny….

Nevada Republican U.S. Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian has said repeatedly that he hasn’t violated “Harry Reid’s 11th Amendment” – even though he means to say “Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment” – by going negative on Sue Lowden.
Even as far back as January 13, 2010, Danny publicly stated on the Laura Ingram Show – in between arguing with the host, dodging her questions and being taken to task for it – that he was “not going to get on a radio show and bash a fellow Republican candidate” – while simultaneously bashing Lowden for supposedly being the “establishment” candidate.
Here’s the exact transcript, which we just obtained, of that January 13th exchange.

(Chuck Muth) – I don’t know how much Republican U.S. Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian is paying his high-priced out-of-state California political hack and his high-priced out-of-state Florida political hack, but it’s wasn’t enough to help him extract his foot from his mouth after securely wedging it in there again last week.

For a lawyer who won a slander suit just last summer, you’d think Republican U.S. Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian and his experienced team of political operatives would know how to produce a campaign television commercial that complies with the law.
You’d think wrong.
