OK, former Rep. Barbara Vucanovich is a conservative icon amongst Nevada Republicans….and was a Reagan Republican long before being a Reagan Republican was cool.
Meanwhile, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian has been going around yapping at GOP candidate Sue Lowden’s heels over some donations she and her husband made to Sen. Harry Reid some 25 long years ago – leading folks to believe he’s as pure as the driven snow and the one true conservative in this race.
But as the saying goes, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
As a number of bloggers have already uncovered and disclosed, Tarkanian was a rather generous donor to uber-liberal Democrat Rep. Shelley Berkley of Las Vegas in 1998, who ran against conservative Republican former judge Don Chairez, who was running to replace conservative Republican Rep. John Ensign, who was trying to take out Harry Reid that year.
But today I learned that Danny also donated to a Democrat candidate who tried to challenge Rep. Vucanovich in 1994…..the same year Republicans successfully took Congress away from the Democrats for the first time in 40 years!
That’s right. Mr. Conservative tried to defeat Barbara Vucanovich by giving money to a Democrat primary candidate who would have voted for Democrat Tom Foley to be Speaker of the House rather than Newt Gingrich had he won with Danny’s support.
Why is Danny always trying to help Democrats beat conservative Republicans?
Methinks those of you who have hitched your wagon to Danny Tarkanian are in for a bumpy ride. He’s not all that he’s pretending to be. Better buckle up.
And for you Tark supporters who are upset about Tark Tales and me going all “negative” on him, let the record show that (a) Danny threw the first punch – and if he can’t take it, he shouldn’t be dishing it out, and (b) it’s not negative campaigning to tell the truth about your opponent.
I’ll make you all a deal: I’ll stop telling the truth about Danny Tarkanian if you can get him and his hack-attack campaign to stop telling lies about his opponents.
Deal?
